J. Davis Hobdy


J. Davis Hobdy received an Honorable Mention in Jazz Dance from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts at the Arts Recognition and Talent Search Competition while attending Arts Magnet High School in 1986. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts [BTWHSPVA], he furthered his studies at North Carolina School of the Arts, Pennsylvania School of Ballet, and the University of Texas at Austin. Hobdy has performed with Ballet Dallas, Dancers Unlimited Repertory Company, Dance Detroit, Texas National Dance Theatre, Ballet Austin's civic company, Kesheth Dancers, the Dance Consortium and in several industrial shows and videos.
His teaching credentials include BTWHSPVA, the Dance Consortium, Theatre School of Dance in Shreveport, Dallas Theater Center, the Baylor-Tom Landry Fitness Center and choreographic residencies at the Hockaday School. In Maryland, Hobdy has taught dance for competitive gymnastics at Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex as well as having been a guest dance instructor and choreographer for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and a guest lecturer for Capitol College. He was honored as the only non-traditional artist recognized in the Oklahoma Indian Affair's Commissions' 1995 Native American Talent Directory. Hobdy lectured at the 18th World Congress on Dance Research in Argos, Greece in November 2004. He has served as Welcoming and Hospitality Chair and on the Board of Directors as well as the Advisory Board for the Dallas Dance Council and has served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Council for Dance. Television and radio appearances include Good Day Dallas in 1999 for teaching ballet as fitness to senior citizens and Native America Speaks in July 2004. His students have performed with the Joffrey Ballet, Feld Ballet, Jose Greco Spanish Dance Company, Bruce Wood Dance Company, Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular in Branson and in musicals both in national tours and on Broadway. Davis is the co-founder and Artistic Director for PIECES and the School Director for County Dance Conservatory. On a more personal note, Hobdy served for three years on the Advisory Board of the Metroplex Association of Pot Bellied Pig Enthusiasts in North Texas.
